Encom etwork cameras provide greater security and reduce vandalism in Dublin Business Park's car parks
(09/06/2008)
Park West Enterprise Centre Management Company (PWEC) manages the Park West Enterprise Centre in West Dublin, Ireland, which contains more than 80 companies and is set within the Park West Business Park which itself is home to more than 240 companies, employing more than 8,000 employees.
Network cameras from Axis Communications have been installed by integrator Encom, to support PWEC. PWEC called upon the services of Encom to develop a solution to provide greater security in its car parks and reduce vandalism which was proving increasingly costly to fix.
Encom’s solution comprised a number of AXIS 214 PTZ Network Cameras which offer automatic day and night vision, motion detection and require minimal adjustment. A number of specialist AXIS 221 Network Cameras were also specified for use in specific trouble spots because of their active tampering alarm capability and the option to automatically alert back a central control location if moved or obstructed.
The main benefit of Encom’s solution is that all network cameras are connected via a wireless network using Senao NOC 3320 Wireless Access Points. Images are then managed and recorded by AXIS Camera Station (ACS) which offers automatic camera discovery and uses an event configuration wizard to enable remote configuration of all cameras.
All images are collected at 640 x 480 (VGA) resolution on motion detection only and are recorded for 20 days. The whole system, including installation of all wireless communications, cost approximately Euros 20,000 and the benefits and return on investment have already proved significant.
Tom Duffy, director, PWEC Management Company, explained the benefits: "Clear reduction in vandalism and other minor crimes at the Park West Enterprise Centre has made for a safer and more pleasant environment for both business owners and their staff. The flexibility afforded by the use of wireless cameras allowed us to cover a large area quickly and cost effectively. We are very pleased with the new surveillance system and expect to extend it later in 2008."
John Morgan, managing director, Encom commented: “The use of wireless has given PWEC the flexibility to move cameras around the centre as the need arises and it also eliminates the need for any digging through the car parks to lay wiring which is both expensive and highly disruptive.”
Phil Doyle, managing director, Axis Communications (UK) Ltd commented: “Encom, as a key Axis partner in Ireland, continues to deliver innovative IP-surveillance systems which always make the most of our cameras and software and capitalise on the merits of network video.”
