G4S Security Services (UK) is to provide specialist security and stewarding services simultaneously at a number of prestigious events on Saturday 24 May. G4S will be responsible for security and stewarding at the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden Park, Glasgow, the 2nd Cricket Test match against New Zealand at Old Trafford, Manchester and the Kaiser Chiefs concert at Elland Road, Leeds, not to mention the racing at Newmarket and Chris Rock performing at the O2.

G4S’s big weekend of security follows its acquisition in March 2008 of Rock Steady, the UK’s leading event stewarding company. The acquisition enhanced the depth of G4S’s crowd management capabilities in the events security sector, particularly within the areas of live music and venue services.

G4S, (including the former Rock Steady Group of companies), is responsible for the safety of millions of spectators and participants every year at sports, leisure, live music, cultural, political and business events. It employs up to 4,000 full and part-time registered security officers and stewards who are deployed across the UK.

Mark Hamilton, Managing Director, Events, G4S Security Services (UK) said: “The range of services and skills we’ve been asked to supply on this day alone demonstrates our ability to ensure the smooth running of a wide variety of large, set-piece events. Organisers of these events face constantly changing risks that could potentially threaten the success of the occasion. Over the past few years they have had to respond to new legislation, increased anti-social behaviour and an evolving terrorist threat.

“However, it is crucial that despite these risks, security measures at prestigious events such as the annual Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations and Test Match cricket should not be too intrusive so that spectators, competitors and employees can still enjoy the occasion in a secure, yet safe environment.”
G4S Security Services (UK) provides specialist security services for a range of events
including the Epsom Derby, Royal Ascot, the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, Henley Royal Regatta, The O2, the Radio 1 Big Weekend, T in the Park and the V Festivals, as well as the Conservative and Labour party conferences and numerous business and cultural shows and events.
