BeCrypt has achieved CESG Assisted Products Service (CAPS) certification for version 3.3 of its DISK Protect Baseline product which includes support for Windows Vista. DISK Protect Baseline v3.3 provides Becrypt’s range of security and encryption features available in a CAPS approved product.

The product includes configuration options such as password policy definition, allowing password length, format and life to be defined. This flexibility allows data owners to balance practical aspects of security, and data sensitivity when defining local policy and managing risk. Similarly, through CESG guidance, policy controlling product key life can be defined to balance business and security requirements.

DISK Protect Baseline also provides approved encryption for removable storage media, such as USB devices. It supports multiple users on a single PC, and supports a wide range of security tokens including the Aladdin R2e and eToken PRO, RSA 5100, 5200, 6100 and 6200 and SID800 smartcards.

DISK Protect Baseline is straightforward to deploy. The delivery and ongoing management of key material for each device is uncomplicated, and encryption of the machine is transparent to the user.

Richard Brooks, Director of Sales EMEA at BeCrypt commented, “As one of the main suppliers of encryption software to the MOD and many central government departments, CAPS approval is important to BeCrypt. The approval for DISK Protect Baseline v3.3, which includes support for Windows Vista and flexible password policies, underlines our commitment to our existing customers and organisations considering refreshing their infrastructure by migrating to Vista. This is also a major step forward in enabling organisations to balance a range of security requirements through increased product flexibility.”

CESG is the UK National Technical Authority for Information Assurance. Products that are approved to CAPS Baseline enable Government departments to reduce the protective marking of Restricted data by one level or, when used to enforce dual-factor authentication, to reduce the protective marking of Confidential data by one level.
