Axis-3d baggage scanning system protects Beijing Olympics venues
(15/04/2008)
The latest generation of Axis-3d® baggage scanning system, from 3DX-Ray Limited, has been chosen by the Chinese authorities to protect several venues at the Beijing Olympics.
The Axis-3d® represents a fundamental shift from traditional baggage scanning equipment as it displays the image in full 3D, as opposed to the flat 2D of conventional systems. This is based around the company’s innovative stereoscopic x-ray camera which takes two views and displays them to match the requirements of the human eye and brain. This allows staff to see the 3D shape of any object and its relationship to other objects in a package.
The system also incorporates a number of additional technological features and provides an unparalleled imaging capability making it “best in class” for image quality. It can be used for either automatic or manual inspection and can see with an accuracy approaching that of the width of a human hair (100 microns).
“We are incredibly pleased with this impressive order for four complete baggage scanning systems”, said MD Nick Fox. “We believe we have the most advanced x-ray technology in the world and it is ideally suited to mass screening at busy public events and high security venues”.
Axis-3d® also offers advanced materials differentiation which can automatically colour code objects which contain suspect or “threat” materials – such as organics (plastic explosives) and metal (guns and knives).
