PhoneFactor Adds Phone-based Two-Factor Authentication for LogMeIn free RSS feed from Security Park

Positive Networks has announced a version of PhoneFactor for use with the LogMeIn suite of remote connectivity services. LogMeIn becomes the first remote connectivity service that can include tokenless secure two-factor authentication capabilities protecting both individuals and businesses. Previously, LogMeIn only had a token-based two-factor authentication offering.

PhoneFactor turns any phone into an authentication device and has been optimized for secure access to computers using the LogMeIn service, which enables users to connect to, and remotely control their computers both at home and at work. Both LogMeIn and PhoneFactor are web-based services that can be set up in minutes.

PhoneFactor is a simple two-factor authentication and identity protection service that provides far greater security than usernames and passwords. This phone-based authentication service can use any cellular phone (or traditional phone as the only requirement is to be able to receive a traditional telephone call) as a second authentication factor.

The user enters a user name and password just like normal, and then simply answers an instant telephone call and presses “#”. This completes the authentication process. Complete two-factor identity and computer protection is instantly enabled with no need for tokens, smart cards or certificates.

“We believe LogMeIn is the most widely used remote access service and is already very secure,” said Tim Sutton, CEO of Positive Networks. “With PhoneFactor, LogMeIn users that want security beyond basic passwords have another simple and very secure option. PhoneFactor gives them complete two-factor authentication without the hassle or expense normally associated with alternatives that require an additional device.”

“Adding PhoneFactor is a great option for users that want two-factor authentication without the need for tokens, certificates or hardware,” said Michael Simon, CEO of LogMeIn. “It’s great to see innovative companies creating products to service the millions of users in the LogMeIn community.”

“Take a moment to consider all of the valuable and private information that exists on your computer,” said Evan Conway, EVP of Communications and Chief Identity Officer. “With PhoneFactor, you can instantly provide a layer of security than ensures that only you can connect to your PC.”

PhoneFactor is compatible with the free version of LogMeIn, as well as LogMeIn Pro and the IT Reach service which is designed for providing IT support. PhoneFactor costs between $15-30 per year per user and can be activated instantly.
