Northern Ireland Civil Service chooses Websense software for Web security and e-mail filtering
(11/03/2008)
Websense, Inc. has announced that Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) has chosen Websense software to provide Web security and e-mail filtering for all its staff. The decision to choose Websense was driven by IT Assist, the ICT Shared Service Centre providing shared services to all NICS government departments and IT agencies which support them. The £250,000 contract was signed in January 2008 following a review of Web and e-mail security requirements by Websense’s Northern Ireland platinum reseller, ProLogic Data Management.
Northern Ireland Civil Service selected Websense Enterprise™ with Web Security Filtering and Websense Email Security™ for its resilience, reliability, flexibility and proven track record of providing protection against emerging security threats. An essential requirement was the ability to tailor granular Internet use policies and e-mail protection to suit the needs of different departments and job functions. In addition, Websense seamlessly integrates with key elements of the Northern Ireland Civil Service network infrastructure including Microsoft Active Directory and ISA Server to provide all-round robust security.
The NICS central IT Assist team is now able to better plan for continuous online security service provision. In addition, Websense software ensures built-in system resilience that operates to industry best practices, safe in the knowledge that Websense will proactively stop security threats before they hit the network.
“Northern Ireland Civil Service recognised the need to protect their employees from the hidden dangers that can lurk on the Web and e-mail, as well as needing flexible policy setting and scalability from their security solution. We are extremely pleased they have chosen to standardise on Websense as part of the strategic IT Assist initiative,” says Pat Dunne, senior director, UK and Ireland, Websense.
Websense Enterprise and Websense Email Security is being delivered to Northern Ireland Civil Service through reseller partner ProLogic Data Management with technical support from distributor, Data Solutions.
“We worked closely with Northern Ireland Civil Service’s ITAssist team during their review of online security to recommend the technologies that were the best fit for their business needs, as well as the specific requirements of different government departments,” comments Dermot Coyle, managing director, ProLogic Data Management. “We are also providing strategic advice and technical support to NICS during the rollout of Websense across all departments.”
Websense software is powered by Websense ThreatSeeker™ threat intelligence technology, which scans more than 600 million Web sites per week searching for malicious code, along with Websense’s Hosted Security Services, which scan more than 350 million e-mails per week for e-mail security threats.
