dns appointed as Welsh Assembly security partner
(06/03/2008)
dns, a key player in the managed security services industry, has announced that it has been appointed as the security partner for the £74m, seven year contract with the Welsh Assembly Public Sector Broadband Aggregation (PSBA) project as a sub-contractor to its business partner Logicalis, the provider of integrated ICT solutions. This project will offer a consolidated Welsh network solution that will act as a key enabler for driving forwards improvements in public service delivery and inter agency working.
Managing the security of the Welsh Assembly’s network, dns will provide a team of experts who will oversee all aspects of the network’s security 24/7, protecting it from increasingly sophisticated threats and ensuring that the highly sensitive data, such as citizen records, held on this network is safe.
As part of the contract dns will manage all of the networks 700+ security devices using its Managed Firewall and VPN service and will provide its Managed Content Security service to ensure safe web browsing on the internet. Finally, dns will provide its Managed Strong Authentication service to allow secure authentication to the network for particular user groups.
Graeme Cox, managing director, dns commented: “We are delighted to have been appointed as security partners for this project and developing our partnership with Logicalis further. It is refreshing to see a UK public sector authority taking security so seriously – recent events have shown just how badly things can go wrong when this is not the case. With public sector in-house IT departments struggling with a lack of time and budget it is no wonder that sometimes things slip through the net, with disastrous results.”
Cox continued: “The very nature of this network and the data it holds exposes them to security risk, whether by intentional criminal action or by a simple employee mistake. Implementing a team of experts to overview the network 24/7 means that the Welsh Assembly and all those involved can take advantage of this project in the full knowledge their security is constantly managed.”
