SMBs to spend more on IT security
(23/10/2007)
According to the results of a global survey conducted by Astaro Corporation, the SMB market has allocated significant additional budget for IT security spending moving into Q4 2007 and into 2008, which is creating strong demand for the security reseller community.
One quarter of respondents indicated that their organisation will spend between 7% and 10% of their total 2007 IT budget on security and 13% plan to spend more than 15%. Planned IT security investment for the next fiscal year show is set to rise, with nearly 70% of respondents indicating planned increases in budget to prevent unauthorised access to networks and data.
The largest areas of IT security concern included vulnerability assessment, leakage of confidential data and protecting web applications from worms or hacker attacks (via SQL/command injection) with 60% of respondents planning to invest in protection against these threats.
"The biggest challenge our customers and partners are facing over the next five years is the ability to find vulnerabilities in their systems and prevent unauthorised network access," said Arne Klein, Astaro VP of Marketing and author of the report. "Overall, the rise in IT spending on security will continue unabated, with managed security services gaining ground in almost every application."
