Trolley-type mirror facilitates search for contraband under vehicles
(14/09/2007)
Allen-Vanguard has re-launched its trolley-type mirror to help facilitate the easy and safe search for contraband under vehicles.
The large mirror is attached to a long-reach handle and includes an energy efficient 12W fluorescent lamp to help users gain a clearer view of the underside of the car, van or lorry being examined. The lamp has a two metre flying lead for extended searches, and can also be used independently as a search lamp.
To enable easy movement, the equipment is mounted on castors, and has a 33mm x 265mm convex mirror to offer a wide field of view. Finally, both the mirrors and light sources are replaceable.
This device is available in three models. The D-cell model is powered by ten small batteries which fit into the handle and provide up to eight hours of continuous operation. The externally powered version is provided with an eight-metre power cable fitted with crocodile clips that facilitate operation from a suitable external supply source. The rechargeable model is fitted with a ten-cell rechargeable Ni-Cad battery pack, and is supplied with a separate recharger and lead.
According to Glyn Buckler, sales director at Allen-Vanguard: “For professionals who need to search under vehicles quickly and be confident of not missing the signs of illegal activity, there is no better tool than the trolley-type search mirror. Extra special care has been taken during its design to make sure that it is simple to use in the field.”
Allen-Vanguard is laso re-launching its Eagle Video Search Kit to enable detailed searches to be carried out both day and night.
The Eagle kit contains a range of components to provide a versatile search capability. Deployed in the same manner as a search mirror, the video camera allows the search technician to view normally inaccessible areas and record what is seen.
The kit comprises a colour video camera, a flexible under vehicle trolley, and an LCD screen and a telescopic pole. Designed for tactical searches in a variety of sectors, such as law enforcement, customs and the military, it can easily be converted from a single-use tool to a multi-purpose search system.
The video camera features sensors that activate infra-red lights if it is too dark. At the same time, the camera automatically switches from colour to black and white, meaning that the system will produce top-quality images, whatever the conditions.
The under vehicle trolley has a low axis, allowing the camera to be used beneath smaller vehicles, as well as under aeroplane seats or office furniture.
In ‘pole cam’ mode, the camera is attached to a telescopic pole that extends up to 183cm, which makes it possible for out-of-reach places to be inspected. The kit can be changed to this mode quickly and easily, giving operators visual access over fences and walls, down alleyways and inside attics without placing themselves at risk.
“As it can be used by day or night, the Eagle Video Search Kit is indispensable for anyone requiring a detailed, close-up view of a suspect area,” said Glyn Buckler. “It is also extremely adaptable and can be operated with minimal difficulty and danger.”
