Law Firm Cuts Spam by 99% with Mimecast Managed Email Service

Keoghs LLP, one of the foremost insurance litigation firms in the UK, has succeeded in boosting business productivity and cutting time-wasting spam by opting for an email managed service solution from Mimecast.

In a project designed and implemented by IT security consultancy Network Defence, Keoghs has cut the amount of spam reaching its network by 99%. The IT team can now deal with quarantined emails in minutes ensuring there is no delay in getting business critical emails to its staff.

Keoghs LLP was previously receiving around 6,000 potential spam emails per week. This volume of spam would also contain around 400 legitimate business emails, all of which had to be manually checked before being released. This was a major drain on IT resources and potentially led to delays in business emails being received.

With the Mimecast solution now in place less than 0.05% of spam gets through and the time emails spend in quarantine has been reduced from two hours to a matter of minutes. Furthermore, the issue of false positives and genuine emails being blocked is practically eliminated. This has significantly boosted efficiency enabling staff to deal with business correspondence more quickly and effectively.

Mimecast also forms an important element of the company’s business continuity plan. In the event of any outage it acts as a backup server where users can obtain emails via a secure Web portal, which avoids PC downtime and financial loss allowing business to continue as usual.

Network Defence carried out a comprehensive security review in 2006 and recommended the Mimecast solution as an effective means of boosting Anti-virus and spam management. Deployment went smoothly and has been well received by the business and IT team who have successfully freed up resources for other IT activity.
