CRYPTOCard two-factor authentication simplifies the administration of managing digital certificates for Kingspan
(26/07/2007)
Kingspan Group plc, the building products business, has implemented CRYPTOCard's two-factor authentication to simplify the administration and eliminate the cost associated with managing digital certificates. CRYPTOCard was selected due to its ease of management, competitive price point, and diverse token options.
"Kingspan was installing digital certificates on PCs, and decided to implement two-factor authentication to eliminate the overhead related to managing and maintaining these certificates, especially when they expire," said Ricky McKenna, Group IT Manager, Kingspan Group plc.
"We reviewed all available options, and selected CRYPTOCard because of the ease in installation, competitive cost, and because its broad range of devices make it simple to meet for any user's requirements," McKenna continued. "Also, the solution's versatility will enable Kingspan to complete future projects, such as integrating two-factor authentication into Active Directory logons for Citrix and private WiFi network logons."
Irish IT service provider, Business and Scientific Services, assisted Kingspan Group with the installation and integration of CRYPTOCard's technology.
"We have been offering our customer base CRYPTOCard's technology as a simple and cost-effective method of authenticating users utilizing a Juniper SSL for remote access, and so were very familiar with the simple installation and integration process," said Mark Donnellan, Senior Consultant, Business and Scientific Services.
"Always looking to provide our customers with 'Best-of-Breed' solutions, Business and Scientific Services researched authentication providers such as RSA and Vasco, before choosing CRYPTOCard based on the fact that it provides the best combination of security, versatile functionality, and ease of use coupled with substantial cost advantages - resulting from sensible innovations such as event-based tokens that do not need to be replaced when the batteries expire."
"As increased regulations drive the adoption of greater security, organizations are looking for solutions that not only meet strict security requirements, but that are also easy to integrate, manage, and use," said Neil Hollister, CEO, CRYPTOCard. "CRYPTOCard has become a popular choice as it makes sense from a business as well as security perspective," Hollister continued. "Knowledgeable organizations like Kingspan Group select CRYPTOCard's two-factor authentication because it meets all security, ease of use, and business requirements."
And a recent Butler Group report supports the theory that business reasons will play an increasing role in organizations' selection of security solutions.
"The market for solutions such as CRYPTOCard's strong authentication that can demonstrate ease-of-use, value-to-business, and provable ROI, will grow significantly," explained Andrew Kellett, Senior Research Analyst, Butler Group.
Developed for real-world networks - where Linux and Mac workstations often live in a mixed Microsoft Windows domain, with Windows clients and Apache or IIS Web servers - CRYPTOCard's event-based two-factor authentication tokens make it simple and cost effective to replace weak static passwords with a password that is randomly generated for every logon attempt. One-time passwords cannot be reused by hackers, and eliminate both the help-desk costs associated with resetting forgotten passwords and the security risk resulting from users writing them down.
