Tyco Fire & Integrated Solutions - Traffic and Transportation (Tyco), has announced a new IP Control System offering a fully integrated control platform for security and surveillance applications including CCTV, access control, fire and intruder alarms, and communications.

Called Mosaic, this new hybrid system allows seamless control of both traditional analogue and the latest IP-based digital equipment for easy integrated control of systems of virtually any complexity using a common graphical user interface.

Users can mix existing analogue equipment such as cameras and switches from various manufacturers together with the latest IP-based technologies such as virtual matrix switching, network video recording using the latest video MPEG4 codecs etc - all under the control of a single graphical interface. It also offers full support for most CCTV video protocols including the now widely used TVNP Open Protocol adopted by many users such as the Highways Agency and TfL.

Each PC-based GUI operator workstation can control live video from any mix of analogue or IP cameras, search and retrieve recorded video, handle alarms and events from multiple sources, and manage other connected systems such as access control, fire and intruder alarms, public address, intercoms etc. Operators can quickly select and drag any camera on a map-based display to any monitor regardless of the camera type or manufacturer.

Mosaic also provides automated alarm and event handling with operators automatically presented with video from any alarm events. Sophisticated real time video analysis and post processing can include motion detection, automatic number-plate identification and incident detection for traffic and city centre CCTV applications.

The virtual matrix technology makes the system fully scalable up to 1000s of cameras and 1000s of operators across multiple sites. It can include multiple levels of redundancy plus consolidated management and storage of video, audio and data.

Major benefits of Mosaic include easier network management, greater system flexibility, improved scalability, improved video quality and easier, more cost effective upgrading. Unlike traditional analogue systems, it also allows virtually unlimited expansion by simply adding new cameras, codecs or workstations including remote workstations linked by secure VPN or dedicated WAN or broadband connections.

According to Tyco's Alan Perrott, “Mosaic offers a new level of open-ness, flexibility, scalability, performance and integration and is ideal for a wide variety of applications in traffic management, tunnels, passenger terminals, city centres and general security and surveillance applications. Mosaic offers seamless integration of analogue or digital systems from different manufacturers into a single easy-to-use control system that uses a common Graphical User Interface while at the same time providing an easy upwards migration path to more advanced IP-based networking and control, recording and archiving.”

“We designed Mosaic as an evolution rather than a revolution”, he added. “This allows existing systems and equipment to be easily integrated and upgraded to take advantage of advanced IP technology such as virtual video matrices, network video recording etc as cost effectively as possible. As a result, users can make full use of their existing investments while providing an easy migration path to tomorrow’s IP technology.”

Mosaic offers more features and functionality than Tyco’s Cambridge control system which is widely used on many major projects including motorway surveillance, traffic monitoring and control systems, rail terminals and tunnels throughout the world.
