Eurowatch expands eastwards
(04/02/2005)
Eurowatch has announced the expansion of its coverage eastwards, with the addition of the Baltic States and Russia. The addition of these brings the total number of countries covered by Eurowatch to thirty-one.
This expansion in coverage comes 2˝ years after the service started (launched in June 2002). In addition to being used to protect road-freight and commercial vehicles, Eurowatch has also linked with premier car companies to assist in the fight against international car crime and it anticipates a significant take up of this service by private motorists across Europe over the next two years.
Commenting on the expansion eastwards, Peter Vyvyan-Robinson, its London-based director said: “Many multinational companies are now sourcing production in the lower cost countries of eastern Europe and the Russian Federation. Our increased coverage is in response to their security needs to protect their drivers, vehicles and freight on international movements to and from this region.”
Mr Vyvyan-Robinson explained that before Eurowatch launches in a new country it had to be assured not only of the efficiency of its national service, but also of police being able to provide an effective response to calls for assistance. “As Eurowatch expands geographically, we have to ensure that all our service criteria are met before a new country is added”.
He added: “Using the service is helping members to contain insurance premium increases and in some cases win reductions”. He pointed out that more than 60 insurers are now recommending EUROWATCH to their policyholders. “In addition, a growing number of cargo owners require their carriers to be covered by Eurowatch and we ensure that the service covers all the key freight routes. This expansion enables us to do this. Eurowatch is now a de facto security standard requirement for international shipments of mobile phones, high technology, pharmaceuticals and tobacco and is becoming more widely used on all classes of goods”.
