INFOLOG, A CONFERENCE AND seminars organiser which has organised several events for the UK security in the past, is offering a training day on making the most of the telephone in the prevention, deterrence, detection and investigation of claims, fraud and other crimes.

The seminar is described as a working day for central and local government, benefits, the police, health, financial services institutions and law practices.

The date for the training day is 30 January 2002, to be held at Infolog training facilities in Russell Square, London.

Speakers at the event include barristers, forensic psychologists, civil rights watchdog Liberty, police and commercial and financial institutions.

Contributors include:

  • the manager of Central Crime Reporting, Kent Constabulary, Louise Delamare-Timms.
  • the manager of the Telephone Investigation Project, Met Police, Jim Webster
  • Jacqui Hames, from BBC Crimewatch and Crime Stoppers
  • Bob Lack, London Borough of Newham
  • a speaker from Travelex, formerly Thomas Cook

    Topics to be covered include:
  • Police Services' increasing interest in Best Practice regarding specialist centres to handle suspicious calls
  • the techniques used by insurance companies and local authorities for advanced telephone interviewing techniques
  • the legal and civil liberties issues regarding confidentiality of personal advice. Would evidence taken on the phone be admissible by a court?
