RandomStorm powers Pentura vulnerability scanning service
(01/04/2008)
Vulnerability scanning is a growing requirement for many organisations as part of their security compliance procedures and ensures that IT managers can monitor their network security status.
Pentura has selected RandomStorm as the technology behind its new vulnerability scanning service, ThreatSweeper ©. The service enables clients to schedule network scans and access detailed reports on potential vulnerabilities through a Web portal. ThreatSweeper not only provides security information for all scanned devices but also delivers remediation advice and management information.
The service is intended to complement existing security procedures and is aimed particularly at organisations with complex network topologies to manage. Users can schedule the service to scan an unlimited number of specified IP addresses when required, or elect to run a scan on demand. Vulnerabilities can be easily introduced into secure networks through out-of-date software, hardware upgrades, configuration changes or simple human error. The ThreatSweeper service classifies each vulnerability in terms of its severity and enables fixes to be scheduled as part of the routine work load.
The graphical interface gives users an instant overview of their current security status. By drilling down into the system, the user can access detailed information to enable in-depth analysis and management reports, compliant with regulatory requirements, including the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).
Paul Cronin (Technical Director, Pentura) said “RandomStorm’s technology has been developed by security professionals for security professionals and includes features that recognise and address the pain points of network security management. This partnership creates a key brand in line with the other Pentura Risk Advisory Services.”
