Spyware authors are now offering financial rewards to botnet operators and other cyber criminals who covertly install their spyware. Selling "installs" is a common practice in the cyber-underworld, the most notable example was in 2005 when Jeanson Ancheta was arrested for building a 400,000-strong botnet and installing adware from 180 solutions for $60,000. A copycat spam gang has developed a botnet that is currently responsible for more than 20 per cent of all spam in circulation, according to Marshal’s threat research TRACE Team. The botnet now has the ability to distribute similar amounts of spam as the notorious Storm botnet. Businesses are ill-prepared for the security risk introduced by temporary workers

According to new research released today by Websense, Inc., temporary workers are unwittingly exposing businesses of all sizes to information security breaches. The findings indicate that organisations may be unnecessarily putting their data at risk by granting temporary staff access to confidential information at the same levels as permanent employees. Botnets are getting smaller to evade detection

Botnets are getting smaller, as criminals seek to ensure their botnet swarms evade detection. F-Secure recently reported that criminal gangs are splitting their botnets into smaller groups in a bid to create a multi-swarm attack that can still escape detection.
