POLICE in Essex are using SelectaDNA to mark metal after a series of dangerous gas pipe thefts left buildings at risk of fire and explosion. Recent crimes include the theft of copper piping connected to external gas meters at properties in Station Road, Clacton. Many new students will be leaving home for the first time and turning up with an array of gadgets including a laptop, digital camera, smart phone, games console and either an iPod or MP3 player. Four young men stole lead worth £12,000 from the roof of a Salvation Army building in Church Street, Blackpool, in the early hours of one morning in July. However, the lead roof and cornicing had previously been painted with forensically-coded SelectaDNA Grease, which is designed to protect outdoor materials such as metal roofing and copper piping from theft. West Midlands Police offer SelectaDNA forensic marking kits to Birmingham residents

Police in the West Midlands are using SelectaDNA forensic marking in a new crackdown against burglaries. Targeting ‘high risk’ areas of Birmingham, the SelectaDNA property marking system is being deployed in a large residential scheme involving up to 1,000 properties in the Shard End ward, and is being funded by a local Partnership. Southend takes positive action to prevent burglaries(04/07/2011)
Police in Southend have introduced SelectaDNA property marking kits to the Essex seaside resort. The kits, which allow residents to permanently mark their valuables, have been funded by Southend’s Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) and are being distributed initially to previous victims of burglary.
