This year’s Gartner report states that IT security over-protects the wrong assets, over-reacts to the unexpected and over-spends. Security 3.0 is here; a clearer eyed approach to risk management that applies resources appropriately and moves away from the ‘bolting on’ that’s ruled our approach to security for too long. Businesses and the UK Government really need to start asking themselves where the real IT security threats lie. Repeatedly we ... [more]

The recent spate of security breaches has created much scrutiny of government IT security, but according to cross-sector research carried out by SafeBoot, the public sector is the most security conscious group. 88 per cent of government organisations surveyed have a security policy in place, with over two thirds banning the use of external devices (such as iPods) at work in an attempt to mitigate potential security breaches. According to a recent Gartner report, security spending will, for the first time since 2003, slip out of the CIO’s top ten spending list. New research by SafeBoot suggests that security should go back to the top of the list as European workers have a shockingly lax attitude to corporate data security.
